Born and brought in the small town of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, Divakar Shukla was quite an active participant in political and social activities since his school days. He was elected as a secretary for water resources when he was in 7th standard. Later became the school president the following year. A couple of years later, he started a non-registered NGO called “SAMARPAN”, which aimed to provide aid to the underprivileged and financially weak students in the form of books, uniform, stationery etc. They used crowdfunding as the source, and all the donations were kept anonymous. Through this, he was able to benefit more than 100 students in 3 years of its operations. Having a keen interest in engineering, he did his engineering in EEE from GGS College (IP University). While studying there, he sensed a need for a common portal for the students. So, he started his venture called “EEE society” and launched an online portal called (NOT LIVE ANYMORE). Students could find important notes, video lectures, time table, etc., through this platform regarding their curriculum. It was an instant success, and he expanded it for 12 more colleges with average traffic of 70-80 students per day. Due to a lack of knowledge regarding monetizing this venture, he had to close it down after 11 months of its operation. But due to his will to learn and gain knowledge about the startup world and how the business world works, he joined an aggrotech startup where he learned various business hacks, experience and expertise. He assisted the founders in marketing and marketing analysis and any other task if needed. He worked there for three months and gained invaluable experience. While working there, the idea of THEPADOSI had already started to develop in his mind.

ThePadosi is a mobile-enabled civic-tech platform enabling people to raise their collective voice in front of their respective authorities, either they are Politicians or Government officials. ThePadosi features:

  1. Neighbour connection & interaction: ThePadosi provides a medium to connect & interact with their neighbours, which has endless opportunities.

  2. Campaigns: Users can raise societal issues as campaigns with the affected ones in front of the concerned authorities, which further increases the chances of resolution.

  3. Services: ThePadosi provides listing & reviews of all the services available in the area

  4. Offers & Coupons: We provide offers & deals on local as well as PAN-India merchants.

ThePadosi (Hindi for The Neighbour) is an android based application (he’s working on web and iOS versions) that acts as a civic body between the government and the public and as a location-based social network for neighbours.

Divakar aims to make societies happier and more interactive and governance more effective and efficient with this offering. Currently operational in Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow, ThePadosi’s 4-point agenda include: Connecting & interacting with the neighbours. Govt. officers. Raising problems of the area/society as campaigns. Offering location-based deals and coupons online as well as physically.

ThePadosi offers the following services to prospective customers:

● Public Insight Charge: It mainly deals with primary data (providing well-processed information using various data technologies, which help representatives in defining strategies as per the need of the particular segment which allow them to make a lot more impact by dividing a specific area into various features according to the characteristics of residents and their voting behaviour, like age group, sex ratio, qualification, income level, profession, developed or undeveloped area, religion, cast etc.

Along with this information, their technology can quickly identify the need for each segment. Example- Different demands of different age groups, suppose voters of the age group in 18 to 28 may want job guaranty and easy loan for business. The age group of 29 to 40 may wish for affordable housing, better government services, etc. Their data analytics team collects the data from the app ‘ThePadosi’ and analyses it using various data tools and refine it.

They also took periodic surveys like:

● The popularity of politician: They conduct frequent surveys to estimate the popularity of a politician.

● The satisfaction of government work (e.g. Construction of roads, schemes for business): They take surveys to understand how satisfied the people are with government work and the scopes for improvement

End to end assistance: Along with providing primary data, they also offer a lot to end service. For example: suppose voters of the age group 18 to 25 want employment or loan for businesses. They further divide the age group according to different parameters like area, income level, etc., then analyze the group of voters of age group 18 to 25, living in slum area belonging to a particular religion. The result came from it may be need of employment.

But this is not the problem; the problem is why those young voters cannot get employment. Do they lack in skills or any others reason? So they find out the root cause for that and the best solution to the problem. This solution is given to politician, a politician can implement the answer, and we will act as a monitoring agency. So that politician comes to know the actual impact of work.
